Why people are divided by politics and religion

In The Righteous Mind,  Jonathan Haidt sets out a compelling theory on the basis of partisanship in politics and its relationship to religion. Haidt covers a lot of ground in this book, including Durkheim’s sociology, moral psychology, cultural psychology and the WEIRD problem, behavioural economics and the brain’s different systems, and, of course, the bases of political differences.

If you want to understand modern political culture and the growth of partisanship, then this is a good place to start. This book is great reading on how and why the world is the way it is now.
